7.3.5.2 Another initiative needing special mention in this regard is development of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs). It has been realised that potential users hesitate to opt for biomass gasifier based energy systems due to perceived uncertainties on operating efficiencies, life and consequent savings. A few systems installed in Energy Service Company modes have been operating successfully and hence it has been planned to promote widespread replication of the model. A project has been sponsored to Confederation of Indian Industry under which they will develop a model for operation of such ESCOs. The thrust of this programme will be on unemployed engineers who could come together to form groups for taking up the activity. The initiative is likely to be launched in full-fledged manner during the next financial year.
