In addition, there is a target of 40,000 solar lanterns to be achieved in the whole country through the recently introduced interest subsidy scheme. As per reports received till 31^st December 2002, 20,207 solar home systems, 1,250 street lighting systems and 39 kW_p of SPV power plants had been installed in the general areas in the country. In addition, 5,538 solar lanterns were distributed during this period in these areas. The targets for the north-eastern region were 5,000 solar home systems and 50 kW_p aggregate capacity of SPV power plants, street lights and other systems. The achievements reported under the programme in the north- eastern region including Sikkim as per reports received till 31^st December 2002 are 480 solar home systems and 3,125 solar lanterns.
